Treatment Options at Our Allergy Center in Fairfield CT

Allergy Shots

Allergen immunotherapy or otherwise known as allergy shots, is another common treatment rendered by the team here at our Fairfield clinic. Allergy shots are a long-term treatment for symptoms stemming from rhinitis, allergic asthma, or conjunctivitis (eye allergy) and is administered to individuals over the age of 5. The shots provide long lasting symptom relief and are also cost-effective.

Results obtained by the shots vary from patient to patient depending on the dose of the allergen and how long your treatment program lasts. Here at the Fairfield center, our allergy doctors and physicians strive to design and develop effective personalized treatment plans that meet with the needs of all our patients.

Build-Up Phase

An important stage of treatment is that of the build-up phase. This phase involves administering injections with increased amounts of allergens 3 or 4 times per week. The phase will last about 8 months and its results are dependent on how often the injections are received and how well they are tolerated.

Maintenance Phase

Once our allergy physicians  have determined an effective dose level for you, you will then enter the maintenance phase with treatment schedules adjusted to twice per week, with a 3 day break in between each treatment. The immunologists and allergists here in the Fairfield clinic work diligently to design a customized treatment plan for every patient.

Many patients notice a decrease in symptoms during this phase. At the end of the phase, usually about 4 months, an annual test is performed to determine if additional injections are required. Any changes to our treatment, must be discussed with your immunologist.

How Effective Are Allergy Shots?

Allergy shots help to decrease symptoms that are affiliated with many allergies while minimizing the chances to develop new allergies. If, however, levels of improvement are not noticeable after 4 months, the skilled immunologists here in Fairfield will redesign a new treatment plan that is better suited to your personal needs.
