At-Home Sleep Testing Services

What Is an At-home Sleep Test?

Sleep testing that is performed at home helps to measure how many times an individual pauses their breathing while sleeping. These tests are beneficial in the diagnosis and evaluation of obstructive sleep apnea. Further, at-home testing reveals whether an individual has shallow breathing or other breathing difficulties. If you have symptoms of sleep apnea, then an at-home sleep test may be the ideal first step for you.

Common Sleep Apnea symptoms include:

  • Waking up with a very sore or dry throat
  • Loud snoring
  • Occasionally waking up with a choking or gasping sensation
  • Sleepiness or lack of energy during the day
  • Sleepiness while driving
  • Morning headaches
  • Restless sleep

Many of our Fairfield patients give favor to at-home sleep tests because they feel much more comfortable in their own surroundings. However, they do not have the capability of monitoring how long you sleep and whether you are in a light or deep sleep, but the readings do help doctors to put personalized treatment plans in place.

At Home Sleep Tests

Sleep Apnea Testing

The primary purpose of an at-home sleep test is to monitor sleep patterns and record how often an individual stops breathing while sleeping. Test results help to determine if a patient suffers from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

The team here at the Fairfield clinic will explain your at-home sleep testing process and offer you insight needed to perform the test successfully. Your doctor will go over all the equipment with you and explain the proper attachment of the sleep sensors as well.

Measuring Your Results

Upon completion of your sleep test, your doctor here in Fairfield will study the results of the testing and perform an analysis of your overall sleep patterns. These results, once evaluated, will be discussed at your follow up appointment here in Fairfield and will confirm whether or not you suffer from obstructive sleep apnea or any other sleep disorder.

If the study reveals no signs of OSA, your doctor may want to perform further testing to determine the source of your symptoms, perhaps linked to another sleep disorder. Our highly trained staff will work alongside of you in their efforts to pinpoint the ultimate source of your symptoms. This will be accomplished by performing additional tests and analyses. Your doctor may find it necessary to refer you to a sleep specialist.

Sleep Disorder Treatment

If the results of your at-home test indicate that you suffer from a sleep disorder, then our sleep specialists located at our Norwalk or Orange locations will analyze all your test results and customize a personal sleep treatment plan specific to your individual needs.
