What Is an At Home Sleep Test?

At-home sleep tests provide patients with comfort and convenience since they are performed right in the comfort of your own home.  The tests monitor a wide range of sleep patterns, interruptions and breathing patterns with a report generated at the conclusion of the test that is used by your primary care doctor in their analysis and diagnosis of a sleep disorder.

Common Sleep Apnea symptoms include:

  •    Waking up with a very sore or dry throat
  •    Loud snoring
  •    Occasionally waking up with a choking or gasping sensation
  •    Sleepiness or lack of energy during the day
  •    Sleepiness while driving
  •    Morning headaches
  •    Restless sleep

The team here at DOCS Medical Group in West Haven schedules consultations with patients to gather important medical histories and details about sleep concerns. An at-home sleep test is given to the patient. The test results generated at the conclusion of the sleep test are essential to doctors performing an accurate diagnosis. The tests are very reliable, but they do not monitor how long you are asleep, and whether you are a light or a heavy sleeper.

Sleep Apnea Testing

The important results generated by the test are later studied and analyzed by one of our dedicated doctors in their efforts to determine whether or not you suffer from a sleep disorder. The test monitors a good many elements, including how many times you stop breathing while sleeping.

Here at the West Haven clinic, we instruct all patients on the use of the sleep test equipment, and how to properly attach and align the sleep sensors.

Measuring Your Results

While you sleep, important data is recorded with regard to sleep and breathing activities.  At the completion of the test, the generated report is then shared with your primary care doctor who can then perform a thorough assessment of the results. Upon completion of their assessment, your doctor will schedule a follow up visit with you to discuss your test results, and any additional treatment options.

If the sleep test reveals that you suffer from OSA, your doctor will then refer you to a sleep specialist for further treatment. If the results do not indicate the presence of OSA, your doctor may very well want to perform other testing to further assess your symptoms.

Sleep Disorder Treatment

When OSA has been confirmed, you will be referred to one of our certified sleep specialists located at our Norwalk or Orange locations for further treatment. They will move forward with your treatment options, and design a personalized treatment plan specific to your individual needs.
