What Is an At Home Sleep Test?

At home sleep tests help evaluate obstructive sleep apnea by measuring the amount of pauses you experience in the absence of breathing. It also tests if you have shallow breathing and how much effort it takes for you to breathe when sleeping. Your care provider may recommend an at home sleep test if you are experiencing sleep apnea symptoms.

Common Sleep Apnea symptoms include:

  • Waking up with a very sore or dry throat
  • Loud snoring
  • Occasionally waking up with a choking or gasping sensation
  • Sleepiness or lack of energy during the day
  • Sleepiness while driving
  • Morning headaches
  • Restless sleep

Unlike sessions at a sleep clinic, our at home sleep test will not cover how long you are in light or deep sleep. But the at-home test is much more convenient. You are able to perform the test in the comfort of your Bridgeport home. The tests provides reading which can then be used in the determination of potential sleep treatment plans.

At Home Sleep Tests

Sleep Apnea Testing
People with untreated sleep apnea stop breathing repeatedly during their sleep, and our at home sleep tests are primarily used to diagnose if you have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

The amount of times you perform an in-home sleep test will be determined by your care provider. When you are ready for sleep, you will use the equipment provided by our office and attach sensors to your body as instructed.

Measuring Your Results
After you have completed the at home sleep treatment, members of our Bridgeport team will then interpret the results of your at home sleep study. Your health care provider will schedule an appointment with you to go over the results, determining if you have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

If the results show that you do not have OSA, you may suffer from another common sleep issue that causes similar symptoms. We’ll work with you to determine what the underlying cause of your symptoms may be through additional testing or by recommending a specialist.

Sleep Disorder Treatment
If the results of your sleep test indicate a sleeping disorder, we can help create a sleep treatment plan. We treat patients suffering from sleep disorders at either our Norwalk or Orange locations.
