What to Know about STD Testing

What happens during an std testing?

Our STD testing is a quick and easy process. We base our testing and treatment plan on your specific symptoms (sores, pain, discharge, etc), type of sexual contact, and your personal medical and sexual histories. Our qualified team of physicians will ask you to provide a brief sexual history to help them better understand potential STDS which you may have come into contact with. After, any necessary tests will be administered. Multiple tests may be administered, as different STDS require different testing methods.

Testing doesn’t take long and many samples can be evaluated in our office. Other samples will need to be sent off for evaluation. Yes, it’s uncomfortable to bring up the topic of STD testing but it’s vital that you seek treatment right away as opposed to later.

Types of Testing:

*Urine or blood sample

*Swabs (mouth, genitals, sores, discharge)

*Physical exam

Depending on which tests you have received, the sample will either be tested directly in our Bethel office or may be sent to an outside lab. It is not uncommon for patients to feel uncomfortable requesting a test for an STD or STI (sexually transmitted infection), but it is important to be tested if you’re experiencing any symptoms, as an untreated STD can cause further complications.

What Types of Treatment are available at DOCS Urgent Care of Bethel?

First, we can treat the following STD’s:

**HIV/AIDS

*Chlamydia

*Syphilis

*Gonorrhea

*Hepatitis C

*HPV

*Herpes

After the diagnosis of your STD, your physician will let you know of the different treatment options. Antibiotics are the most common form of treatment, as symptoms will disappear within a few days. However, it is important to complete the recommended dose, even after your symptoms are gone. DOCS Urgent Care of Bethel is committed to providing you with treatment that will protect both your health and the health of your sexual partners.

When Should You Get Tested?

If you are currently sexually active, have multiple sexual partners, have recently had unprotected sex, or you’re experiencing an infection or symptoms, we recommend you get tested. Different STDS have different incubation periods, which is the minimum window period. If you are unsure of which STD you have contracted, or you are experiencing common symptoms, it is in your best interest to get tested as soon as possible so the physicians at DOCS can determine the cause and treatment plan. Even if you don’t exhibit any symptoms, you may be at risk for an STD. Getting tested can put you at peace of mind and verify your health.
