What to Know About DOT (CDL) Physicals

What is a DOT (department of transportation) Physical?

If you’re trying to stay on the road, our clinic in Hamden, CT can give you the necessary DOT Physical—also known as a CDL physical. A DOT (Department of Transportation) Physical is required every 24 months for any individual who operates a commercial vehicle. It evaluates if the driver is physically and mentally fit enough to safely operate a commercial vehicle without endangering others. DOT physicals are mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

D.O.T. physicals are provided for drivers to determine if any mental, physical, and emotional issues that might impact their ability to safely operate a commercial vehicle. D.O.T. medical physicians are adequately trained to evaluate the regulations to stop any drivers from being inappropriately disqualified. Stop by our Hamden, CT clinic for your necessary D.O.T. Physical.

ARE CDL PHYSICALS THE SAME AS DOT PHYSICALS?

Most commercial drivers traveling long distance as well as interstate will require a DOT Physical. A DOT Physical can also be called a CDL Physical Exam because the DOT exam can be a requirement for those trying to receive a  CDL (commercial driver’s license). Not all drivers require a CDL.
