What to Know About DOT (Or CDL) Physicals

What is a DOT (department of transportation) Physical?

A DOT (Department of Transportation) physical is required every 24 months for anyone that drives a commercial vehicle. It assesses if the driver is healthy enough overall to operate a commercial vehicle without being a risk to other drivers. DOT (or CDL) physicals are overseen by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Our medical physicians can administer your DOT Physical in our Norwalk, CT office.

Highly monitored, D.O.T. Physicals are given to reveal any possible mental, physical, and emotional concerns that might negatively affect the driver’s ability to operate a commercial vehicle at any given time. D.O.T. medical physicians are qualified to evaluate the requirements to prevent any drivers from being inappropriately disqualified. Come in as a walk-in to our Norwalk, CT clinic to get your D.O.T. Physical, today.

What is a DOT (department of transportation) Physical?

The physical exam all commercial drivers need to take—the DOT physical exam—is sometimes referred to as the CDL physical exam. This is because the DOT physical is also a requirement to obtain a CDL (commercial driver’s license). Not all commercial drivers need a CDL, but most will need the Medical Examiner’s (ME) Certificate that they receive from a DOT physical.
