What to expect DURING the physical

Anything that may conflict with the child being able to perform in the camp, sport or school is examined. From hearing to vision, we will check their vitals and family medical history that can make it difficult for the child to participate in the activity. In addition, we can recommend more tests at our Branford location if necessary.

Physical Examination Includes:

  • Height / Weight
  • Blood pressure and heart rate
  • Checking of heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose, and throat
  • Evaluate posture, joint, strength, and flexibility
  • Vision testing
    *Concussion Assessment
    *Recommendation of Proper Protection
    *Recommendation to Specialist if Necessary

Medical History Includes:

  • Serious illnesses among other family members
  • Illnesses (past and present) due to asthma, diabetes, or epilepsy, etc
  • Previous hospitalization or surgeries
  • Past injuries (including concussions, sprains, or bone fractures)
  • History with passing out, dizziness, chest pain, or trouble breathing during exercise.
  • Medications that you are currently on (over-the-counter/ herbal supplements/ prescription.)
  • Vaccinations

What should I bring to the physical?

You should bring any required forms from the school, sport or camp. Typically these will come straight from the program your child wishes to be in – our healthcare providers will be able to fill these out for you. Glasses or contacts are also needed along with the child or teen’s prescriptions, and the parents must bring a valid photo ID and current insurance card.
