What to expect DURING the physical

At your sports or camp physical you can expect that the doctor will be examining all your vitals as well as your hearing, and vision to ensure that you are good to go to play your sport or camp activity of choice.  The doctor will ask questions about family history and determine if further testing of any kind is required.

Physical Examination Includes:

  • Height / Weight
  • Blood pressure and heart rate
  • Checking of heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose, and throat
  • Evaluate posture, joint, strength, and flexibility
  • Vision testing
    *Concussion Assessment
    *Recommendation of Proper Protection
    *Recommendation to Specialist if Necessary

Medical History Includes:

  • Serious illnesses among other family members
  • Illnesses (past and present) due to asthma, diabetes, or epilepsy, etc
  • Previous hospitalization or surgeries
  • Past injuries (including concussions, sprains, or bone fractures)
  • History with passing out, dizziness, chest pain, or trouble breathing during exercise.
  • Medications that you are currently on (over-the-counter/ herbal supplements/ prescription.)
  • Vaccinations

What should I bring to the physical?

When you arrive for your examination be sure to bring with you any required paperwork provided to you by the school or camp requiring your doctor’s signature.  Be sure to have available any and all prescription data that your child or teenager may be taking along with their eye prescriptions. You will also be required to present a photo ID and an up to date insurance card.
