What to Know About Monroe Addiction Recovery Treatment

WHO SHOULD SEEK TREATMENT?

If you are on the road to healing, DOCS Urgent Care of Monroe stands by you to embrace your recovery. Addiction is a chronic brain disease that fuels the urge for substances, and opioid addiction in particular is a difficult habit to break alone. DOCS Urgent Care in Monroe is here to help.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

The use of Vivitrol or Suboxone are included in treatment options.

Vivitrol

Vivitrol is a once-monthly, non-addictive medicine used for opioid and alcohol addiction treatment. Vivitrol (naltrexone for extended-release injectable suspension), is administered by our physicians and is an extended-release injectable form of Naltrexone.

Vivitrol is an opioid antagonist which blocks the opioid receptors of the brain for one month with each dosage, and helps to prevent relapse. When combined with the appropriate counseling and social support, the medication is able to decrease opioid dependence following detox and can reduce cravings.*

Side effects include: nausea, vomiting, sleepiness, headaches, dizziness, painful joints, decreased appetite, cold symptoms, trouble sleeping, toothaches, or muscle cramps. For more information on the potential side effects and safe use of Vivitrol see here.

Suboxone

Suboxone (buprenorphine and naloxone) Sublingual Film is a prescription medicine for treatment of opioid dependence that is used in conjunction with counseling and social support.

Buprenorphine occupies receptors in the brain but doesn’t produce all the effects of opioids. The receptor is tricked into satisfaction without producing strong feelings of euphoria and without causing significant respiratory depression.*

Suboxone should not be used alongside medications that contain opioids, and may bring the risk of several potential side effects. You should discuss the proper use and potential side effects of Suboxone with a physician before beginning treatment. For additional information on the potential side effects of Suboxone, visit here. visit here.

What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

As part of your treatment, you should inform your DOCS Urgent Care practitioner if you have liver problems or a history of liver problems, use of any street/illegal drugs, bleeding disorders such as hemophilia, kidney problems or any other medical conditions, and if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
