What to Know about STD Testing

What happens during an std testing?

STD testing is used to determine what the problem is you’re facing, quickly and easily. Typically, we figure out what symptoms you have (sores, pain, discharge, etc.), type of sexual contact and personal medical and sexual histories. Then we base our testing and treatment plan on that. We ask that you provide us your sexual hsitory to understand what types of STDs you may have come into contact with, and will administer any necessary tests. As you may have more than one potential disease, we will usually administer multiple tests since different diseases require different testing methods.

While it may be uncomfortable to talk about STD testing, we urgently ask you to get treatment for it sooner rather than later. Testing is done in our office in most cases, though some of the samples may need to be sent elsewhere for evaluation.

Types of Testing:

*Urine or blood sample

*Swabs (mouth, genitals, sores, discharge)

*Physical exam

What Types of Treatment are available at DOCS Urgent Care of Monroe?

First, we can treat the following STD’s:

**HIV/AIDS

*Chlamydia

*Syphilis

*Gonorrhea

*Hepatitis C

*HPV

*Herpes

Once you’re diagnosed, we can determine which treatment action is the best form of action. A common treatment plan is antibiotics, and if it can be treated that way then symptoms should dissipate in a few days. PLEASE COMPLETE THE RECOMMENDED DOSE, EVEN IF YOU BELIEVE YOUR SYMPTOMS ARE GONE. The medical professionals at DOCS Urgent Care of Monroe wants to make sure you and any future sexual partners are safe, and want you both to be as healthy as possible when engaging in sexual activity.

When Should You Get Tested?

You should get tested when you’re sexually active, have multiple partners, or have recently had unprotected sex. While most people will come when infected or showing symptoms, it can also put you at ease when you’ve had reckless sexual behavior. Different STDs have different incubation periods and show different symptoms. If you’re unsure which STD you’ve contacted, please get tested at your local DOCS Urgent Care as soon as possible. Even if you don’t show any symptoms, you may be at risk, so give yourself peace of mind and verify your health.
